I critiqued Sharonna and Nadias podcast.
This podcast was good because Sharonna and Nadia included a lot about gdp. They talked about the united states as well as other countries in our universe. They said China has a really high GDP because they have sooooo many exports and very little imports. I also really liked all the pictures they included.
This podcast was bad because it sounded like they read from their notes. Me and Ivona did the same thing but we tried to make it sound more casual and more like a conversation so people wouldnt zone out. Because it was so formal, I zoned out and missed half the point of their podcast.
To improve this podcast I would suggest they make it more casual so people with short attention spans like me dont drift off into space :D

Savings and Debt
America is full of people who like quick easy options. Theres not much work involved and all the benefit is immediate. Credit cards are perfect for these type of people. Sign up, spend and poof! flat screen plasma! new leather couch! gucci heels! But wait...theres a letter in the mail saying you need to pay a minimun balance and if you dont your interest rate will increase. Only in this moment do immediate satisfaction consumers realize their goods werent free but rather they spent money they didnt have which they will eventually need to pay back.
The article in the new york times talks about a couple who are in thousands of dollars in debt plus they need to support a family and pay the mortage. At first I started to feel for them. They got in way over their heads and all the things they pay for are NECCESSARY! But wait. In the last paragraph I felt complete disgust.
Both say they could manage better if they just had the time
“It’s been almost two weeks since we’ve had time to sit down and go over the bills,” Ms. Moellering said. “You can’t do it every day because we both work full time. I’ve got two kids; they want all our attention; they haven’t seen us all day. We’re trying to cook dinner. We have to do the dishes, fold the laundry. We’re exhausted. And on the weekends the kids want our attention, and we want to spend time with them; we don’t want to spend time going through the bills.”
Excuses. Excuses. Excuses.
This couple is in debt, theyre so busy, theyre tired, they dont have time to go through the bills! This is why I have no pity for people in debt. Some fail to realize any situation dealing with money is serious and cannot be taken lightly.
Unfortunately, its so easy to just sign your name on the dotted line and immediately start spending. Americans need to educate themselves and their children because being financially stable is a crucial part of a happy healthy life.
In the meantime I dont plan on signing up for any credit cards. I have a checking account and I am content knowing what I spend is money ive earned.
Stories like these make me realize how stupid Americans are and how I must strive to become the opposite so my children can do the same.

Student Loans
The article from the new york times talks about students in culinary school and their large loans.
Most of these students take out big loans because their ego's are inflated and they're very naive. Thoughts like "I could be the next rachael ray or bobby flay! I can pay off 80,000!" are what get kids into trouble. Then to make matters worse, when they sign for these loans, they dont read the fine print then cry their way over to maury to share their pathetic sob story.
Going through the college process ive realized there are a lot of things that need to be researched so you dont get screwed over. Im not a little kid anymore and I cant expect my mother to hold my hand.
Im going to suny Oneonta to major in dietetics. I still want to be in the field of food but ive realized ever since the food network and food reality shows made cooking so popular, going to culinary school isnt the smartest thing you can do. Although there are many jobs in restaurants most of them are minimun wage. I refuse to bury myself in loans just to make 8 dollars an hour.
Becoming an RD, I can do a lot of things. I can go in a lot of directions, preferably down the road I can make the most money. I dont want to be one of those people who chooses a career just to make money but in this world, you must be hopeful yet realistic. College doesnt pay for itself and sometimes loans can ease the loan, but not in the long run.
